MSHA

Mining Safety and Health Administration (MSHA): The mission of the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) is to administer the provisions of the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act of 1977 (Mine Act) and to enforce compliance with mandatory safety and health standards as a means to eliminate fatal accidents; to reduce the frequency and severity of nonfatal accidents; to minimize health hazards; and to promote improved safety and health conditions in the Nation's mines.

MSHA Contractor ID Request: All independent contractors are required to apply for an MSHA contractor identification number. An MSHA ID is required for each contractor operating a mine site and must be issued before they begin specific activities.

MSHA Mine ID Request: All mines are required to apply for an MSHA mine identification number. An MSHA ID is required for each mine site and must be issued before any operations may begin.

MSHA Mine Accident, Injury and Illness Report Form 7000-1: If an accident, injury or illness occurs at or in conjunction with activity at a mine, mine operators are required to report the circumstances of the incident to MSHA using Form 7000-1.

MSHA Immediately Reportable Accidents and Injuries: The immediate notification rule 50.10 directs you first to try to contact the district at all times. You should prepare for this by asking the District Manager to provide you with telephone numbers for contacting appropriate district personnel during non-business hours. Using the direct district number during non-business hours will prompt a pre-recorded message that will give you the numbers for the MSHA district personnel.

MSHA Quarterly Mine Employment and Coal Production Report: Mine operators are required to report employment and production information to MSHA using Form 7000-2 for each quarter of operation at the mine.

MSHA Mine & Contractor Data Retrieval: Search for mine & contractor information, mines by current controller, extended searches and more.
